Recommended background knowledge
This subject has been designed to extend, at an advanced level, students' knowledge in applying the principles of equity and trusts as they have evolved, and are applied, within the common law tradition. The expectation, therefore, is that students will not enrol in the subject unless they have studied these principles in a law degree from a common law jurisdiction. LAWS70217 Fundamentals of the Common Law, whilst designed to provide students with sufficient overview knowledge of these principles to undertake subjects across the Melbourne Law Masters program, is not regarded, in itself, as sufficient preparation to undertake this subject.
If a student who has not studied the principles of equity and trusts in a law degree from a common law jurisdiction nonetheless seeks enrolment in the subject, they should first consult with the subject coordinator (see the Coordinator listed to the left-hand-side of this webpage) or the Director of Studies, (see the Coordinator listed on the Private Law program webpage).
Inherent requirements (core participation requirements)
The University of Melbourne is committed to providing students with reasonable adjustments to assessment and participation under the Disability Standards for Education (2005), and the Assessment and Results Policy (MPF1326). Students are expected to meet the core participation requirements for their course. These can be viewed under Entry and Participation Requirements for the course outlines in the Handbook.
Further details on how to seek academic adjustments can be found on the Student Equity and Disability Support website: http://services.unimelb.edu.au/student-equity/home
