The Cancer Therapeutics subject aims to examine the benefits and limitations of various treatment modalities available for patients with cancer. Case studies will be used to integrate this information to understand and evaluate the modern era of integrated cancer care and the role of multi-disciplinary team-based patient management. The subject aims to provide breadth of knowledge and perspective with regards to cancer treatment and patient centred care.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Demonstrate an in depth understanding of the clinical care pathways, models of care and multidisciplinary approaches utilised in the management of cancer
- Critically analyse the mechanisms of action of the major therapeutic strategies in oncology
- Reflect on the scientific and clinical challenges of treating and managing site specific cancers
- Identify and evaluate emerging and potential future therapeutic strategies
- Demonstrate a patient centred approach in complex decision-making processes
