After completion of this subject, students will have the knowledge to acquire focused ultrasound views for basic assessment of the heart, lung, and abdomen in paediatrics and be able to write a focused ultrasound report. Students will have interpreted and written a report on 10 focused ultrasound studies of pathology relevant to paediatric practice. Students will have the knowledge to perform ultrasound guided peripheral venous and arterial catheterisation in paediatric patients.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Identify the key steps required to acquire the standard focused transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), lung and abdominal ultrasound views in paediatric patients.
- Interpret and write a structured interpretive report for focused ultrasound images of the heart, lungs and abdomen in paediatric patients.
- Identify the key steps required to perform ultrasound-guided peripheral venous and arterial catheterisation in paediatric patients.
- Evaluate the requirements for training, competence, and certification in focused TTE, lung and abdominal ultrasound in paediatric patients.
