After completion of this subject, students will have the knowledge to perform and interpret clinical arterial and venous vascular ultrasound and will develop a good ability in writing interpretive reports. Students will have interpreted and written a report on 10 ultrasound studies of a wide range of commonly encountered vascular pathology. Students will also have the knowledge in how to use ultrasound to perform ultrasound-guided percutaneous arterial and venous cannulation.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Identify the key steps to use ultrasound for vascular assessment including aneurysm and stenosis.
- Identify the key steps to perform and write a structured interpretive report of focused ultrasound of the carotid arteries, abdominal aorta, and arteries and veins of the upper and lower limb.
- Identify the key steps to perform ultrasound-guided cannulation of arteries and veins.
- Evaluate the requirements for training, competence and certification of vascular diagnostic and procedural ultrasound.
