The subject builds on the content of Interactive Composition 1. It further examines the skills required for individual composers to develop their craft in interactive music making and include realising a new work event.
Interactive Composition is delivered in two parts: Tutorial and Workshop. Tutorial is taught primarily by a specialist mentor through a mixture of individual and group tutorials. Workshop is taught as a seminar and provides the opportunity for group discussion of issues related to interactive composition and a forum for the workshop of new works.
During the subject students will be required to engage in whole group discussion and to present complete and ongoing interactive composition projects.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- incorporate varied artistic reference points and techniques in music and sound with other media;
- realise a creative brief drawing on their individual practice and aesthetic;
- account for extra-musical factors in creative media presentations;
- apply self-reflection and creative problem-solving to composing and realising music and sound for other media.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate in-depth knowledge of their specialist discipline;
- reach a high level of achievement in artistic practice, problem solving and communication;
- be critical and creative thinkers, with an aptitude for continued self-directed learning;
- have the capacity to participate fully in collaborative learning and to confront unfamiliar problems.
