The subject builds on the content of Interactive Composition 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. It further examines the skills required for individual composers to develop their craft in interactive music making and include building a collaboration and realising a new work event.
Interactive Composition is delivered in two parts: Tutorial and Workshop. Tutorial is taught primarily by a specialist mentor through a mixture of individual and group tutorials. Workshop is taught as a seminar and provides the opportunity for group discussion of issues related to interactive composition and a forum for the workshop of new works.
During the subject students will be required to engage in whole group discussion and to present complete and ongoing interactive compositions.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- utilise a broad range of musical and extra-musical reference points in creative work;
- employ and apply a fluent and flexible technique in music and sound with other media collaborations;
- develop an extra-musical creative brief, compose and realise responses to that brief with resourcefulness and adaptability;
- apply sound production and manipulation techniques to realisation of a concept with skill and imagination;
- utilise rigorous intellectual and ethical standards and resourcefulness in live project planning, preparation and documentation.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- demonstrate a high level appreciation and practical understanding of the nature of interactive composition;
- be cognisant of and sympathetic to a broad range of music and art forms within an interactive composition context;
- have acquired practical skill in solo and group interactive composition;
- be able to connect creative skill development with actual interactive composition realisation;
