This subject builds on the content of Music Making Laboratory 1, 2, 3 and 4. It further examines the skills required for individual composers to create and realise cross-disciplinary new artistic work in a group environment and includes large group collaboration and realisation of a new multi-discipline group work.
Music Making Laboratory is mentor led and delivered as a practical laboratory, which offers opportunities for observation, practice and experimentation within a range of media and genre contexts.
During the subject students will be required to engage in whole group discussion and ensemble cross media music making.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- analyse and critique observation, practice and experimentation within a group music-making environment;
- incorporate a broad range of art forms within a practical music-making context;
- demonstrate solo and group interactive composition skills in a variety of media contexts;
- implement collaboration skills within an interdisciplinary group context.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- have developed an appreciation and understanding of the nature of observation, practice and experimentation within a group music-making environment;
- be cognisant of and sympathetic to a broad range of music and art forms within a practical music-making context;
- have acquired skills to direct and lead group interactive composition new work in a cross media environment;
- have developed an appreciation of the collaborative process within an interdisciplinary ensemble context.
