The subject provides opportunities to extend, deepen and apply knowledge, skills and attributes in the context of a research project. This subject enables students to engage in the design and implementation of a research project that demonstrates their advanced theoretical knowledge and critical reflection skills. It provides the opportunity for integration of their prior learning from the course, and demonstration of their advanced nursing practice and research capacity. The subject is designed to facilitate the student’s eligibility for a PhD.

Intended learning outcomes

At the completion of this subject the student should be able to:

  • Apply an evidence-based approach to exploring a topic of enquiry
  • Formulate a viable research question arising from their clinical practice
  • Develop a personal learning plan to enable the conduct of a research project
  • Design and conduct a research project, or elements of a project, in the area of nursing practice
  • Collect, manage, analyse and interpret data
  • Present research outcomes in a written form suitable for publication in the research literature, and in oral form
