Overview
Students will conceive, plan and execute a substantial research project in which they demonstrate a capacity to think originally and independently within the chosen area. The project will demonstrate a command of the writings at the forefront of the chosen field and show an ability to apply musicological or ethnomusicological research methodologies. Students will also undertake a professional project and a number of advanced academic electives.

Structure
Students in the Musicology/Ethnomusicology specialisation complete 50 points of core subjects and 50 points of elective subjects.
Dissertation continues over two consecutive study periods, with students first enrolling in MUSI40104 Dissertation Part 1 and then subsequently enrolling in MUSI40105 Dissertation Part 2, for a total enrolment of 37.5 credit points. Students will receive an overall result for the subject following completion of the two-subject sequence.

* Students undertaking Professional Project (Musicology) who have not completed Music Research in third year are encouraged to to take Music Research (Honours) as an elective subject.
* Students undertaking Professional Project (Ethnomusicology) who have not completed The Ethnography of Music in third year are encouraged to to take The Ethnography of Music (Honours) as an elective subject.
