The development and presentation of a work in progress and its critical evaluation and discussion with artistic peers. The practical exploration of ideas and concepts for a new work. The development of appropriate work plans, rehearsal processes, methods and resource frameworks.

Intended learning outcomes

On completing this subject students will have:




  • ability to conceptualise and develop new work;
  • capacity to give form to performance concepts;
  • ability to critically evaluate work in progress and respond constructively;
  • ability to contextualise personal artistic practice within relevant fields;
  • ability to articulate strengths and weaknesses in a new work in progress;
  • capacity to develop strategies in response to critical perceptions;
  • ability to manage all aspects of a developmental project including resources.

Generic skills

On completing this subject students will have:

• ability to design, create and organise aesthetic material on a closely defined project;
• ability to adopt a flexible approach to problem solving;
• ability to perform and present artistic materials
• application of theory to practice;
• capacity to evaluate and synthesise data and other information within the context of current performance;
• ability to communicate in oral and written form and with appropriate digital technologies
