This subject will provide an opportunity to develop teaching strategies that meet the needs of all students through the use of carefully evaluated and selected digital tools. Current research is used to inform the evaluation of technology tools for educational use and their effectiveness for student learning. This subject takes a pedagogical approach to technology integration in schools, focusing on the ways in which digital technologies can support personalization in learning and assessment, linked to the clinical approach to teaching.
Teacher Candidates will learn to safely and effectively use digital technologies within school settings. The subject will develop Teacher Candidates’ technology capabilities to support them to meet national and Victorian curriculum outcomes. It will also support Teacher Candidates to meet Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (graduate level) in the area of Information and Communications Technologies. Through case studies, a range of resources, tools and software will be explored while maintaining a focus on meeting individual students’ learning needs.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject Teacher Candidates should be able to:
- Use an evidence base to articulate the value of specific technology tools in meeting individual student needs
- Critically analyse the impact of a digital technology tool on student learning outcomes
- Create and maintain safe and supportive teaching environments
- Make informed connections between a clinical approach to teaching and digital technologies
- Purposefully use digital technologies to expand learning opportunities for students
- Make informed choices about their professional learning needs and explore avenues to improve their own knowledge
- Critically appraise the use of digital technologies within a school context and understand the implications on teaching and learning practices

- Annotated digital resource list (2000 words) due mid semester (40%)
- Written reflection on digital technologies at your placement school (3000 words) due end of semester (60%)
Hurdle requirements:
- Weekly readings and contributions to subject blog, equivalent to 30 minutes each week (150 words each week) throughout semester
- Minimum of 80% attendance at all scheduled lectures, tutorials, seminars and workshops.
