Overview
Please note that PD-ARTS Postgraduate Diploma in Arts will no longer be accepting new applications as of the 1st January 2015, the program from 2015 will be offered as GDA-ARTS Graduate Diploma in Arts (Advanced). Please refer to the correct handbook entry for program information for commencing students from 2015.
The Postgraduate Diploma program in German Studies comprises advanced coursework and an individual research program designed to extend students’ knowledge and skills in one specific field of German Studies (such as German linguistics, German literary studies or German cultural studies). After successfully completing the program, students will have gained considerable practical skills such as research skills, report writing, presentation and communication skills, language skills and international and cultural awareness.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Arts in this area of specialisation should:
- engage in sophisticated discourse in German;
- enhance their reading comprehension of the language and their written and spoken command of German;
- enhance the ability to discuss, analyse and evaluate complex ideas in German;
- become acquainted with recent critical theory and methodology.

Structure
The Postgraduate Diploma in Arts in this area of specialisation requires:
- thesis of 12,000 words written in German or 15,000 words in English (50 points)
- one compulsory subject (12.5 points)
- three elective subjects (37.5 points)
Total 100 points
Please note: students must discuss the choice of electives with the coordinator or German convernor before enrolling.
