The aim of this subject is to provide students with an opportunity to develop a research proposal and aligned ethics application for an area of study of their choice. The subject enables students to work independently in the development of a proposal for a minor thesis. Students will develop a working knowledge of human research ethics relevant to surgical research. Students are also expected to engage in a peer review process to develop competencies associated with scholarship and professionalism.

- Oral presentation; 10 minutes Due week 3 of semester 2 (20%) - Students will make a presentation on their proposed research project. Outlining the justification of the project, scoping review, proposed methodology. They will be expected to focus on just one element of the proposed research project.
- Essay (Human research ethics application); 3000 words Due week 10 of semester 2 (40%) - Students will write a human research ethics proposal for a research project.
- Research proposal; 3000 words Due week 12 of semester 2 (40%) - Students will write a research proposal for their minor thesis.
