Overview
European Studies is a cross-disciplinary program that focuses on European culture, society and languages. Students complete core European Studies subjects and can also choose to take subjects from areas such as history, literary studies, languages, philosophy, politics and art history.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this minor, students will be able to:
- engage critically with national and comparative perspectives on Europe’s cultures;
- communicate knowledge effectively about Europe’s present and past, and its traditions in oral and written form; and
- demonstrate a broad knowledge of the interdisciplinary field of European Studies; and
- develop research skills in the constituent disciplines of languages, history, cultural studies, literary studies, film studies and memory studies that are applied with intellectual honesty and a respect for ethical values; and
- demonstrate an awareness of Europe’s historical and contemporary relationships to other regions such as Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Australasia; and
- acquire critical insights through their engagement with Europe that prepare them for becoming good global citizens; and
- work with independence, self- reflection and creativity to meet goals and challenges in the workplace and personal life; and
- work effectively in groups to meet a shared goal with people whose disciplinary and cultural backgrounds differ from their own.

Structure
75 credit points
European Studies is available as a minor sequence. The minor comprises 75 points of study (25 points at level one, 25 points at level two, 25 points at level three).

- EURO10002 Eurovision; and
- One Arts Foundation subject
or
25 points of a European language at level 1 (if not also credited to a language major/minor)
