This subject will identify the role of ultrasound and specific clinical situations relevant to perioperative and critical care practice.

Topics include:

  • Clinical Applications- Persistent Hypotension
  • clinical applications-Acute Pulmonary Oedema
  • High-Speed Deceleration Injury
  • Unexplained Sepsis
  • Stroke
  • Echocardiography for Cardiac Transplant Surgery
  • pericardial Tamponade
  • Epiaortic Echocardiography

Intended learning outcomes

The completion of the subject, students should:

  • Understand multiple clinical applications such as persistent hypotension, acute pulmonary oedema, high-speed deceleration injury, and unexplained sepsis.
  • Understand echocardiography cardiac transplant surgery
  • Understand pericardial tamponade
  • Understand the effects of ventilation on echocardiography
  • Complete 20 case reviews.

  • Enhance time utilisation
  • Improve written skills and problem solving skill

All students are expected to have access to a computer that can operate a Windows platform or simulation.

Eligibility and requirements

Prerequisites

Admission into one of the following:

  • GD-CLINUS Graduate Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound
  • MC-CU Master of Clinical Ultrasound

This subject is not available for students admitted in any other courses.

It is recommended that the following are completed before undertaking this subject:

MEDI90049 - Principles of Ultrasound Heart Scan

MEDI90050 - Doppler Echocardiography

MEDI90051 - Ventricular Function
