This subject will provide advanced knowledge called valvular and aortic pathology and echocardiography assessment
Topics include:
- Mitral Regurgitation
- Perioperative Assessment of Mitral Valve Regurgitation
- Mitral stenosis
- Aortic Stenosis
- Aortic Regurgitation
- The Tricuspid Valve
- Aortic Disease
- Prosthetic Valve Assessment
- The Pulmonary Valve and Miscellaneous Conditions
- Miscellaneous Congenital Cardiac Disorders
Intended learning outcomes
The completion of the subject, students should:
- Assess mitral regurgitation and stenosis
- Assess aortic regurgitation and stenosis
- Assess tricuspid and pulmonary valve pathology
- Understand aortic disease
- Understand prosthetic valve assessment
- Understand basic congenital cardiac disorders
- Complete 20 case reviews
Generic skills
- Enhance time utilisation
- Improve written skills and problem solving skill
All students are expected to have access to a computer that can operate a Windows platform or simulation.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into one of the following:
- MC-CU Master of Clinical Ultrasound
- GD-CLINUS Graduate Diploma in Clinical Ultrasound
This subject is not available for students admitted in any other courses.

It is recommended that the following are completed before undertaking this subject:
MEDI90049 - Principles of Ultrasound Heart Scan
MEDI90050 - Doppler Echocardiography
MEDI90051 - Ventricular Function
