This subject introduces students to the audition process for professional orchestral positions.
Students learn to craft written application materials and prepare standard solo repertoire and excerpts for live and recorded auditions.
Students regularly practice the performance of audition repertoire in weekly classes with leading industry professionals.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- assemble a list of standard excerpts and solo repertoire commonly requested at auditions;
- demonstrate the ability to navigate the application process for an orchestral job;
- learn repertoire for an audition;
- critically evaluate one's own performances and the performances of others;
- interpret musical works as appropriate for varied performance situations.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- give and receive constructive feedback;
- promote and maintain the wellbeing of self and others;
- manage competing demands on time, including self-directed project work;
- integrate personal reflection into the creative process.
