European Studies minor

Intended learning outcomes

On completion of this minor, students should be able to:

• Engage critically with national and comparative perspectives on Europe’s cultures
• Communicate knowledge effectively about Europe’s present and past, and its traditions in oral and written form
• Demonstrate a broad knowledge of the interdisciplinary field of European Studies
• Develop research skills in the constituent disciplines of languages, history, cultural studies, literary studies, film studies and memory studies that are applied with intellectual honesty and a respect for ethical values
• Demonstrate an awareness of Europe’s historical and contemporary relationships to other regions such as Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Australasia
• Acquire critical insights through their engagement with Europe that prepare them for becoming good global citizens
• Work with independence, self- reflection and creativity to meet goals and challenges in the workplace and personal life
• Work effectively in groups to meet a shared goal with people whose disciplinary and cultural backgrounds differ from their own.
