This subject provides those students wishing to progress to a higher research degree the opportunity to conduct individual research in either the development of theory and methods or the application of business analytics techniques. This subject is an alternative to the Prof Development and application II subject.
In order to apply for the research pathway a student will need to secure approval for a proposed research project under a qualified supervisor, with the intention that such a project would form the basis for a higher degree (PhD) proposal. From the outset therefore it is important that candidates do the following when considering such a pathway:
- Several months prior to the beginning of the MBusA applicants should begin discussions/proposals of research projects with the academic director of the MBusA and appropriate supervisors who will mentor the project.
- These discussions should aim to address
- Project scope and how it meets the learning outcomes stated above
- Supervision from qualified/approved mentor
- Candidacy for continuation into a higher research degree
- Approval from the Academic Director of the MBusA.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of Individual Research Project students should be able to:
- Produce original individual work in an appropriate format which demonstrates research skills in the application or development of business analytic techniques;
- Present their research professionally in a way that demonstrates the impact of their research.
