This two-part subject provides students with the opportunity to learn the essential skills needed to undertake research. In addition, students will gain first-hand experience in experimental design, and in data collection, analysis, and presentation. In DENT90109 students will produce a Literature Review and prepare and present an Oral Presentation (DENT90109); In DENT90110 students will produce a Minor Thesis (which includes the Literature Review as from DENT90109) and prepare and present an oral presentation.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Conduct research in biomedical, dental and health sciences.
- Describe and apply technical skills that address identified research problems within dental, biomed, or health sciences disciplines.
- Clearly and effectively communicate scientific knowledge and information to a range of audience in both written and oral format.
- Express intellectual, scientific arguments in the context of dental, biomed, or health sciences disciplines.
- Assimilate and critically evaluate existing knowledge within a scientific paradigm.

- Critical appraisal of draft documents; developing the ability to exercise critical judgement;
