This subject explores social structure and context, policy, school environment and other organisational factors in relationship to student wellbeing. In this subject students will assess and recommend specific approaches to change related to student wellbeing based on current research and analysis of evidence, existing policy, practices. There will be an emphasis on preventative measures and a whole-system/school approach. The course prepares students to take a leadership role in the design, implementation and evaluation of well-being activities in schools and beyond.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Critically analyse changes in global, national and state wellbeing policies and programs and impacts on wellbeing and learning outcomes
- Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the challenges and benefits of educational settings as institutions for societal change including with respect to health and well-being
- Demonstrate an advanced appreciation of theories of system (and organisational change and the role of leadership-driven structures, policies, processes, and culture on student wellbeing and learning outcomes
- Use understandings of leadership and its relationship to education and learner wellbeing to recommend processes to improve organisational health.
Generic skills
This subject will assist students to develop the following transferable skills:
- Advanced competencies in research and analysis, critical reasoning and evidence-based problem-solving
- Capacity to effectively communicate complex ideas and theories, orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
- Capacity to value and participate in teamwork
- Capacity to manage competing demands on time and ability to work with a high level of autonomy and accountability.
