Students will develop the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary for music performance. Areas to be covered include advanced study of instrumental or vocal technique, and specialisation in all related aspects of music performance. Formative feedback in individual and group settings will be provided across the semester.
In order to contextualise their education within the best practices of local, national and international standards, students are expected to work competently and productively both alone and in groups. The subject involves participation in individual lessons, instrument/voice classes, performance class and/or assigned ensemble activities. In order to ensure the highest level of performance preparation, 100% attendance is expected.
Progression Note:
To progress from Performance 3 into further Practical Music or Performance subjects:
- A subject result of 65% or greater is a prerequisite for MUSI20202 Performance 4
- A subject result of 50% or greater is a prerequisite for MUSI20200 Practical Music 4
Assessment Hurdle Class & Ensemble Information

Concert Class: Students must apply to participate in Concert Class by completing the Concert Class Application on the Conservatorium Special Permission Forms website.
Ensemble: Information for Ensemble Activities can be found on the Ensembles page in the Handbook. Please refer to each Ensemble subject for details including requisites and additional entry requirements. Note: Students do not formally enrol in these subjects.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- build strategies for technical control and coordination;
- execute technical exercises and repertoire at an appropriate level with fluency, accuracy, attention to detail and character;
- project a well-shaped and expressive sound across the range of their instrument or voice;
- apply appropriate style and informed judgment to technical repertoire;
- perform music individually (and where appropriate collaboratively) with commitment and confidence.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should have developed:
- problem-solving skills;
- skills in critical thinking and self-evaluation.
