Suzuki Practicum Part 1 (MUSI90199)

Suzuki Practicum Part 1 is offered as a work experience subject for students who wish to complete their Primary Level Suzuki Teacher Accreditation.

Placement

Students are required to complete 24-hours of placement, where theoretical aspects of teaching methodology, early childhood development and Suzuki Philosophy will be explored. These theoretical studies are reinforced through teaching observations of individual and group lessons. Mentored teaching of individual students and groups is a significant part of the subject, as students put into practice the theoretical knowledge that has been acquired.

In addition, students are expected to be able to demonstrate all the pieces contained in books 1 – 4 of Suzuki repertoire for their chosen instrument or voice.

This subject is only available to performers with a major study in flute, piano, voice, violin, viola, cello or classical guitar.

This subject is the first part of a two-subject sequence, taught over two consecutive study periods. Students are required to enrol in MUSI90199 Suzuki Practicum Part 1 (12.5 points) and MUSI90200 Suzuki Practicum Part 2 (12.5 points), consecutively, for a total enrolment of 25 points.

Students will receive a 'CNT' grade for Part 1. An overall result for the subject is given following completion of the two-subject sequence.

Assessment, Subject Intended Learning Outcomes, and Total Time Commitment applies to the entire enrolments across Parts 1 and 2 of the subject.

The Total Time Commitment for the subject is approximately 340 hours, inclusive of the two study periods [MUSI90199 Suzuki Practicum Part 1 (12.5 points) and MUSI90200 Suzuki Practicum Part 2 (12.5 points)].
