Working under the supervision of a staff member, a student will produce two substantive publishing projects, equivalent to 5,000 words of written assessment. The project will be part of a larger team publishing project which is led by staff and based in the program’s teaching press.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Discuss the methods used in professional book publishing, which are applied, iterative, group-performed and team-taught, and develop publishing projects utilising them
- Explore future career options in the publishing industry through the development of experience of professional roles and tasks associated with traditional and ebook publishing
- Produce and/or market a book within realistic industry timeframes and deadlines
- Build professional contacts and networks through the project-based learning opportunities that the Grattan Street Press provides
- Critique the roles and performance of teams and technologies in the contemporary book publishing industry, and create oral or written industry-standard reports about their findings.
Generic skills
Students who complete this subject should acquire:
- Additional research and written communication skills through professional writing and supervised discussion.
