Principal coordinator Leanne Foster Mode of delivery On Campus (Parkville) Contact hours The contact hours for this subject represent 250 hours, which is half of the total 500 hours required over two consecutive study periods, to complete the first/second Supervised Field Placement in the MSW degree. Part-time placement may be available with prior negotiation with the Field Education Team. Additionally, students will participate in up to seven hours of university-based integrative seminars. Each of the four field education subjects (SCWK90048/49/50/51) must meet the 250-hour contact requirement to comply with the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards (ASWEAS), as mandated by the Australian Association of Social Workers. Students are expected to complete all required work within these contact hours, fulfilling the accreditation requirement. Total time commitment 250 hours Pre teaching start date 3 February 2025 Pre teaching requirements Students are required to meet all University-set pre-placement requirements, including vaccinations, background checks, and health/legal clearances, by the specified deadlines. Additional delivery details
Students must undertake placement offerings in sequential offerings to fulfill accreditation requirements.
The primary placement block where most students undertake their placements is between May and August. Accordingly, placement subjects should be enrolled and completed in the following order: SCWK90050 (May) and SCWK90051 (July).
Students unable to enrol in the above subject pairing or who need to take placement part time will require approval from the Subject Coordinator and should contact sw-placements@unimelb.edu.au
Note: Before being allowed to commence a student placement, all students must satisfy certain pre-placement requirements found at: https://mdhs.unimelb.edu.au/study/current-students/placements. This should be completed at least 4 weeks before the placement period.
