This subject will provide theoretical and research-based information describing a range of arts practices for health and wellbeing in community contexts.
Lecture topics will include an overview of community arts therapy practices from around the globe and then focus on diverse practices in each of music, drama, dance and art based information. Important distinctions between practice models and theoretical orientations for arts practitioners in community contexts will be outlined and the interests and desires of diverse participants will be highlighted. In particular, collaborative and critical approaches to the design of arts-based programs for health and wellbeing will be canvassed.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- distinguish practice models and theoretical orientations appropriate for working as an arts practitioner in community;
- document a process to identify the interests and desired outcomes of diverse persons in community context;
- design program that fosters creative participation in ways that are congruent with the desires of people in community contexts.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

- articulate, integrate and adapt knowledge from different domains;
- engage in rigorous and respectful debate;
