Screen Practice 1B focuses on the further development of practical film making skills attained in Screen Practice 1A.
This subject enables students to consolidate and build upon their learning via the production of a short film project, from concept to completion. Practical assignments are completed within a staggered production schedule.
Students also further develop leadership, collaboration and management skills through designated key crewing roles on other student productions in camera, lighting, production management, and sound departments. Students are exposed to a range of filmmaking styles and begin to develop their own filmmaking philosophy.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply basic film-making methodologies;
- use film grammar and visual storytelling techniques;
- identify the role of leadership in the effective management of productions from concept to completion;
- identify creative challenges throughout production and apply appropriate problem-solving strategies;
- demonstrate basic film directing skills through the realisation of a short film project through all stages of production.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- apply critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills to unfamiliar challenges;
- communicate effectively in oral, written and digital forms;
- work as part of a team to achieve a common goal;
- demonstrate appropriate leadership in group settings;
