Overview
Intended learning outcomes
In addition to the learning outcomes of the Master of Civil Engineering, students should:
- have gained knowledge and practice in advanced structural engineering topics which might include high rise structures, earthquake resistant design of buildings, structural dynamics, structural modelling and geotechnical applications (which contains contents on the integration of structural engineering with geotechnical engineering)
- be able to apply that knowledge to analyse and design structural systems
- have gained knowledge and practice in civil and structural engineering management including economics, legal liability, intellectual property, ethics and the law as it applies to the civil/structural engineering profession
- had the opportunity to develop research principles and methods in the field of civil engineering

Structure
75 credit points
The Structural specialisation is completed by undertaking specific subjects (75 credit points embedded within Year 2 and 3 requirements).
Note:
Students entering the course with advanced standing who plan on completing a specialisation may need to enrol in core specialisation subjects in their commencing semester. Please check and follow the structure outlined for your intended specialisation and seek course planning advice.
To obtain a specialisation in Structural, students must complete:
- 87.5 credit points of Year 2 Structural specialisation compulsory subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 selective subjects
- 25 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation compulsory subjects
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation selective subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation elective subjects
Year 1:
- 100 credit points of Year 1 compulsory subjects
Year 2:
- 87.5 credit points of Year 2 Structural specialisation compulsory subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 2 selective subjects
Year 3:
- 25 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation compulsory subjects
- 25 credit points of Capstone subjects
- 37.5 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation selective subjects
- 12.5 credit points of Year 3 Structural specialisation elective subjects
