Course structure
Candidates are required to undertake
- Two core subjects (EDUC90619 and EDUC90620)
- Two 12.5 point subjects from the elective list below
- A 20,000 word thesis including specialist research methods (EDUC90729)
In the six months prior to submission of their thesis candidates must present their research findings at a public completion seminar attended by their Advisory Committee.
Candidates enrolled in this research-classified Master of Education need to achieve an H2A average in the coursework component in order to proceed to the thesis. If the H2A average is not met, candidates may transfer to the Master of Education by coursework.

With the permission of the supervisor and the course coordinator candidates may choose other elective subjects such as:
- Subjects from Melbourne Graduate School of Education's specialist Masters courses for which the student has the prerequisites;
- A relevant postgraduate subject from another Faculty/Graduate School for which the student has prerequisites;
- A negotiated project.
Thesis and Research Methods
Candidates will be enrolled into their thesis once they have completed the coursework component with the required H2A average.
During the first semester of enrolment in the thesis candidates are required to complete EDUC90729 Conducting Educational Research.
